Mayra Alvarenga

PCC Trainee

I am a counselor who is passionate about creating a safe, compassionate space for healing, growth, and restoration. Growing up in the Latino community, where therapy was often viewed as taboo, I witnessed firsthand how much support and understanding were needed, but not always accessible. As a child, I longed for a space where feelings could be named, and healing could begin. Those early experiences shaped my desire to walk alongside others as they learn to care for their inner world and move toward growth.

I view therapy as tending to a garden. Each person carries a seed planted within them. Sometimes, in soil that has been rough, compacted, or neglected. When a seed cracks, it may appear broken, but that opening is often what allows growth to begin. My role is not to “fix” you, but to walk with you as we gently uncover what has been buried, remove the weeds that no longer serve you, and create space for healing and restoration. I believe true change happens through a collaborative relationship rooted in empathy, patience, and hope. As a Christian counselor, I view God as the ultimate gardener, and I seek to partner with Him in restoring, nurturing, and speaking life into His creation while honoring each client’s unique story and pace. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and young adults, and I specialize in concerns related to identity development, life transitions, emotional regulation, anxiety, and relational challenges. I am currently in my final year of the Master’s program in Counseling at Life Pacific University. I plan to pursue licensure as a Professional Clinical Counselor and am honored to support clients as they grow into the fullness of who they were created to be.
